The Feet
February 2026 | The Feet + Grounded Beginnings
Welcome to a new year!
We are almost through January, but with Chinese New Year approaching, there’s still time to welcome in the new year and acknowledge the energies that are still building.
Numerologically, 2025 was a ‘9’ year (2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9) — a year of completions and endings. In Chinese astrology, 2025 was a Snake year — a Wood Snake, to be exact. Think shedding old ‘skins’: old versions of ourselves, old beliefs, old consciousness, making way for expanded awareness and self-growth. The wood element embodies long-term growth and adaptability.
2026 is a ‘1’ year (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 1) — new beginnings. And in Chinese astrology, this marks the beginning of a Fire Horse year, bringing renewal energy that can see us get off to a galloping start in bold new directions. Fire can feel a little unpredictable on one hand, but incredibly energising, with potential for rapid momentum on the other.
Chinese New Year begins on 17th February, so if it hasn’t quite felt like the energies have shifted for you yet… well, they haven’t! And right now can be a beautiful time to simply notice what is shifting — both into and out of your experience.
The clinic
The end of 2025 was challenging for me, with some health issues arising (cough and reflux caused by long-standing nervous-system influenced fascial restriction - phew! that’s a mouthful!) which, from my perspective, felt necessary for my body to process and clear to move further forward in my healing journey. While I was still able to support clients with appointments, it did mean my reserves (mental, emotional, energetic and physical) were a little lower for writing Body Wisdom emails.
I speak with clients often about identifying what makes you feel resourced — energised, supported, regulated — and discerning the balance between giving to others and giving to yourself. So I thank you for your understanding as I preserved my energy when I needed to.
It has definitely been a time of old things shifting, and of allowing space for that to occur — which embodies the craniosacral way of listening to the body in daily living.
Body Wisdom
The feet. The feet represent how we meet the earth, how we begin. This aligns perfectly with January’s initiation energies. And when it comes to new starts, the body wants grounded beginnings, not force.
Our feet are often our first contact point with the earth as we wake each morning, and sit up and step out of bed.
Feet symbolise our direction: not desired or imagined, but the direction we are actually embodying. The feet are about trust in support, and carrying responsibility for outcomes, about how we step forward and move into (inhabit or inhibit) what is coming next, whether we can respond with flexibility to the flow of life or feel pressure to 'make something happen’.
I have been connecting in with my feet and my ankles a lot recently, noticing extension, restriction, tensions, flexibility, my direction, my sense of balance.
For just a couple of minutes, invite your attention into your feet.
Let your awareness settle there as fully as you can. You may like to close your eyes.
Gently move your feet — perhaps arching the foot, rotating the ankles, flexing and pointing the toes, or simply letting them rest.
Where in the feet do you notice ease? Where is there tension?
Do your feet feel supported by the earth beneath you?
Do they feel supporting to the body above them?
Without trying to change anything or judge as right or wrong, allow your feet to be exactly as they are. (And isn’t this what we seek in life, to be accepted in each moment just the way we are?)
This simple act of noticing — of bringing awareness to the body, anchoring in the present moment — helps signal safety to the nervous system. And the body begins to speak.
Warmly
Danni
